Rebecca “Beck” Mendoza Flores, beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend to many, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 15 at 9:31 a.m.
Beck was born on May 24, 1965, in Quezon City, Philippines, to Alfredo and Julita Flores. She grew up alongside her younger siblings, Milo Flores (†) and Gigi Ocampo. She attended St. Theresa’s College in Quezon City from elementary school through high school before earning her degree in Dentistry from Centro Escolar University in Manila.
During her childhood in the Philippines, Beck divided her time between her family’s home in Quezon City and Santa Maria, Bulacan, where she spent many weekends with her Lola Nena (†), surrounded by cousins and extended family. Those years created lifelong memories and nurtured the deep family bonds that remained at the center of her life.
In 1991, Beck moved to Los Angeles, California, to begin a new chapter. She first helped at the family’s restaurant, Orient D’ Lite in Eagle Rock, before pursuing a career as a dental assistant. A remarkably hardworking and dedicated person, Beck worked at two dental clinics for many years while continuing to help at the family restaurant whenever she could.
In 2005, inspired by her interest in healthcare, Beck decided to pursue a new career in medical coding. After completing her studies, she worked at PIH Health, San Gabriel Hospital, and most notably UCLA. She built a successful career as a medical coder, earning the respect of her colleagues through her reliability, professionalism, and expertise. She became a trusted resource and mentor, always willing to share her knowledge and help others.
In 2024, Beck took early retirement from UCLA to spend more time caring for her parents in the Philippines. She divided her time between Santa Maria, Bulacan, where her parents had settled, and Los Angeles, continuing to dedicate herself to the people she loved most.
Beck found joy in life’s simple pleasures and brought warmth and positivity wherever she went. A faithful Catholic, she found a welcoming community at St. Stephen’s Church in Monterey Park, where she regularly participated in parish gatherings with her Ninang (godmother), Dorothy. She enjoyed watching classic television shows such as Little House on the Prairie and The Brady Bunch, game shows like Family Feud, and Korean dramas. Beck was known for her thoughtfulness, generosity, and quiet acts of kindness. Whether bringing food to a friend, picking someone up from the airport, surprising someone with a thoughtful gift simply because it reminded her of them, she always found meaningful ways to care for others.
Family was the center of Beck’s world. She was a devoted and loving daughter who cared deeply for her parents and was always ready to help family members in any way she could. She adored her nephews, Jacob and Ezra, and her niece, Stella, finding immense joy in watching them grow and celebrating every milestone in their lives.
Beck is survived by her loving parents, Alfredo and Julita; her sister, Gigi Ocampo; her brother-in-law, BJ; her nephew and godson, Jacob; and a devoted circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother – Milo Flores, nephew – Josemaria Ocampo, and many cherished family members.
Beck will be profoundly missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Although our family will never be the same without her, through the grace of God we are filled with hope that one day we will be reunited in His presence alongside our loved ones and the communion of Saints.
